Great for Cleaning and Soothing — But the Taste Takes Getting Used To!

Great for Cleaning and Soothing — But the Taste Takes Getting Used To!I bought Colgate Peroxyl Antiseptic Mouthwash for my 13-year-old son, who deals with canker sores regularly, and I decided to try it myself as well since I get them every once in a while. If you’re someone who struggles with mouth sores, gum irritation, or any of those painful little spots that make eating and talking miserable, then you know how important it is to find something that actually helps without making things worse. What I like about Colgate Peroxyl is that it does more than just mask the pain — it actually cleans the area. As soon as you swish it around, you can feel the oxygenating bubbles working, and there’s this sense of cleanliness and soothing that kicks in right away. For my son, it seems to calm the soreness and reduce some of the irritation, especially during the first couple days when the sore is at its worst. It doesn’t magically heal them overnight, but it does make them feel less angry and raw.One thing I’ve noticed is that using it consistently, even just once or twice a day, seems to keep the mouth from getting as irritated overall. It feels like it prevents the sore from getting worse, which for us is a big win. It’s also great for general gum health, which is a nice bonus. Now, I have to be honest: the taste is rough. It’s not sweet or minty like normal mouthwash. It has a strong, almost medicinal peroxide flavor that neither of us enjoy. My son makes a face every single time. But the good news is the taste doesn’t linger too long, and the benefits outweigh that short moment of “ugh.”Also, if you have any open sores, there’s a bit of a sting at first, but it’s manageable — and it fades quickly once the bubbling action kicks in.Overall, I’m giving Colgate Peroxyl Antiseptic Mouthwash four stars. It definitely helps soothe and clean the area, and I notice a difference when we use it. If the taste were better and the sting a little lighter, it would easily be a five-star product. But for what it does — soothe, clean, and support healing — it’s something I highly recommend keeping on hand if canker sores are a recurring battle in your household.

Minty fresh

Fresh taste and leaves my mouth feeling clean for hours. It’s not too strong or overpowering, and it doesn’t burn like some other mouthwashes. Helps keep breath fresh and gives a nice clean feeling after brushing. Great for everyday use and good value for the price.

Effective for mouth sores, but not your everyday mouthwash

This Colgate Peroxyl rinse works well if you’re dealing with mouth sores, irritation, or after dental work. The 1.5% hydrogen peroxide creates a bubbling action that helps clean the area and promote healing, which is exactly what it’s designed for. It’s alcohol-free, so it doesn’t burn like traditional mouthwashes, and the mild mint flavor is gentle and not overpowering. You can feel it actively working, especially on sore spots or irritated gums. That said, this isn’t really meant for daily long-term use like a regular mouthwash. The taste is just okay, and the bubbling sensation can feel a bit unusual at first. It’s more of a treatment rinse than something you’d use for fresh breath.Pros:-Very effective for mouth sores and irritation-Helps promote healing-Alcohol-free and gentle-Easy to useCons:-Not ideal for daily, long-term use-Taste is mild but not great-Bubbling sensation may feel oddOverall: A great targeted treatment rinse that does what it claims. Best to keep on hand for mouth sores or irritation, but not a replacement for your regular daily mouthwash.

Love it

Love this. If you have a canker sore or cut in mouth use at night and next morning mine are gone. Since I have been using I haven't been sick with sore throat. Think it helps clean teeth.

Must have for dental work

Bought this since I have ongoing dental work. Good stuff. I was just using regular hydrogen peroxide before this and still do but this is also a mouthwash. Nice and minty but not burning.

A minor investment that saved a dentist visit 😆

I bought this product for my cavities and gum irritation, safe to say my teeth are doing so much better! Of course, brushing regularly and flossing helped but this totally speeded up my healing process. My family started using this to better their oral health as well. Definitely recommend if you’re trying to save a visit at the Dentist office for something minor, it helped me and my family.

Works exactly as promised, a must have for mouth sore relief!

I picked up this Colgate mouth sore rinse after dealing with a stubborn canker sore and within a couple of days, I noticed a huge improvement. The 1.5% hydrogen peroxide formula creates a gentle, foaming action that really makes your mouth feel clean and soothed. The mild mint flavor is perfect refreshing without being overpowering and definitely not harsh like some other rinses. I also appreciate that it is alcohol free so there’s no burning sensation. After using it twice a day, the irritation and soreness went down significantly faster than they usually do.Overall, this rinse has earned a permanent spot in my medicine cabinet. Whether it’s a canker sore a bite on the inside of my cheek or just your general irritation. It really helps speed up healing highly recommend!

Great antiseptic mouth rinse at a great price

This mouth rinse with hydrogen peroxide works well to help alleviate pain and aid in healing of mouth sores caused by viruses, jaw bites, etc. The taste is a minty flavor similar to other mouthwashes. Do not use this for any absess around teeth or open sores in the gum line as the hydrogen peroxide in the rinse could possibly cause a condition known as dry socket. This is an antiseptic mouth rinse only so do not swallow. I compared with the cost at a local Meijer supermarket and this was nearly $2 cheaper per bottle. Highly recommended.

This stuff is AWESOME!!!

I have an autoimmune disorder that frequently produces small but very painful sores in my mouth. Unfortunately, one of the medications used to fight this disorder can cause oral thrush as well. It's not a devastating problem but can be really annoying. It shouldn't hurt to drink coffee, that blessed elixir of life. I have tried many remedies, (salt water gargles, mixing my own peroxide rinses) but nothing really worked well.I ordered this mouthwash, although I didn't really expect miracles. As with so many other things in my life, I was wrong. Really wrong. This stuff is awesome!! I got almost instant relief from the pain. Within a day or so of use, the sores faded dramatically. I use it now as a preventative measure. It's minty but not overpowering. Although it's a little pricier than most mouthwashes, it's well worth it. It shipped quickly and was well packaged when it arrived. It is now a valued member of my autoimmune toolbox. I won't run out of this!!Reducing the odd symptoms of my illness reduces stress as well and allows me to concentrate on healing.(Although the review process encourages photos, I'm not doing that. It's a bottle of mouthwash, not the Mona Lisa. And absolutely NOBODY wants to see a grainy, blurry photo of the inside of my mouth!)

CURRENTLY HAVE EIGHT CANKER SORES IN MY MOUTH

UPDATE 6/28/22 I have continued to use this over the last couple years and the rinse is amazing. A few months ago I had a number of canker sores in my mouth and the pain & healing time reduced by using this rinse is amazing. I don’t always use it but when I have it’s made a difference. I use it religiously multiple times a day for probably two days out of having the sores and the pain is nonexistent for a little while. Then I’ll go to 2-3 rinses a day while they’re healing. I still use anbesol in between when needed but this totally works. Please get this and you won’t regret it.UPDATE 11/5/2020 I have used the rinse three more times today and my mouth feels ten times better. There's only one more sore in the back of my mouth that still hurts. The rest are there but are not painful and do not make it hard to talk or as difficult to eat. This is some of the best stuff. I also used one more OraSwift Lozenge last night and it helped a little. PLEASE get this for your mouth!!!11/04/20 That's right. I have eight canker sores in my mouth all at once. One on each part of where my wisdom teeth already came out - so one on each of the four corners of my mouth, one on the left side of my mouth behind the jaw tendon about half the size of a dime, one in front of the tendon, one on the back of the roof of my mouth, and two more on the front of the roof of my mouth. These all developed over a period of about 3 days at once.I was in EXTREME pain on the night of 11/3/20. I was crying. I could barely eat, and what I tried to eat at my job while on a break hurt like you wouldn't believe. It felt like my wisdom teeth were coming in and bone was pushing through. When I got home I cried my eyes out, swished some of this stuff around for a minute, and put an OraSwift Lozenge on the left side of my mouth. The lozenge helped because it coated the one sore, and the rinse helped with inflammation. I get canker sores frequently and this has been a savior.I've now been using this mouthwash for the last 22-24 hours or so and my mouth is in way less pain. I have not had to use another lozenge, either. Here's my timeline of swishing:11/3 10p11/4 4a (randomly woke up)11/4 10:15a (before coffee)11/4 about 11:30a (after coffee, before lunch)11/4 1:30-2 after lunch11/4 About 7:50 after dinnerNOW, for the mouthwash itself. It has a minty flavor but also like an intense listerine-type burn. Doesn't taste like alcohol though. The rinse itself foams up so I would pour a little less than what's recommended so you can swish it around your mouth still. PLEASE swish for one minute, it will make a difference. You will want to follow the directions and swish as you normally would with mouthwash, but for sure after eating anything. Even an apple or a single grape or whatever. Just do it, you'll thank me later. As a canker sore sufferer, this stuff has really done the trick. My mouth is not as inflamed, I can eat without as much pain, and I feel at way more ease without feeling like I'm starving. Speaking of food, because I have so many of them (this has never happened to this extent) I have been eating soft things such as vegetable soups and things like spaghetti cut up because they're easy to swallow and require little to no chewing. Please get this and use as directed and more. It will be so worth it, I promise you.
